What:
FIGMENT is an explosion of creative energy. It’s a free, annual celebration of participatory art and culture where everything is possible. For one weekend this summer, it transforms the Northwest Side park in Chicago into a large-scale collaborative artwork—and then it’s gone.

When:
August 16-17, 2014
Both days: 10 a.m.–6 p.m.

Where:
Jefferson Memorial Park
4822 N. Long Ave.
Chicago, IL 60630 (directions | site map)

How Much:
FREE! FIGMENT is a free non-profit event, and we do not accept any corporate sponsorship. Donations are welcome onsite or online! Read more about FIGMENT's not-for-profit, non-commodified passion in our You Are FIGMENT 2014 Letter.

What to Bring:
Whatever you need for a day of fun outside. For specific ideas or if you have specific questions, view our exhaustive list of “What to Bring”!

How Do I Bring Art or a Project to FIGMENT?
You can bring bubbles. Face-painting. Anything simple, safe & creative. Art submissions are now closed for our Submit a Project page. (Consider one for next year; Deadline was August 4.)

Weather:
The event is rain-or-shine. If the forecast calls for rain, be prepared to hide—or dance—under umbrellas while the clouds pass.

What to Expect:
Art and activities in every medium available… especially the art and activities that YOU bring!

Wait, FIGMENT Is Free with No Sponsorships? How Does that Work?
Because FIGMENT is dedicated to the principle of GIVING, volunteer artists and event staff help bring the two-day event together. This year, we had our IMAGINE fundraiser on May 22 at Bottom Lounge. Our legendary yard sale was back on June 14–15 at Rockwell & Leland. Our 2014 Silent Auction raised $800, but we're still in need of funds going into the August 16–17 event. As always, you can give a monthly or one-time tax-deductible donation here. Read more about what your contributions do in our You Are FIGMENT 2014 Donor Letter.

In 2012–13, FIGMENT in Chicago raised the funds needed to produce the event at a yard sale, a comedy night, an online Silent Auction, and a Lincoln Tap Room fundraiser called IMAGINE.

Where does the word ‘FIGMENT’ come from?
In the words of FIGMENT’s Founder, David Koren in 2008:

“The name comes from Andy Warhol. He once commented that he’d like his tombstone to have only one word on it: ‘Figment.’ Though Warhol never got his wish (he has a traditional grave marker).”
